When you think of BRANDING, you probably first associate it with a logo, right? It actually goes way, way beyond that. Your logo is simply one part of the bigger brand picture. It just isn’t enough!
Things to consider before you should even go into having a logo designed. What is your Brand Purpose, your Brand Positioning and your Brand Personality? Your Brand Purpose is your WHY. Why do you do what you do? Brand Positioning is how you are going to stand out in this over crowded world. What makes you different and why I should choose you over your competitor? Brand Personality is the way your brand engages to the world. What are some keywords that describe your personality? These elements help define your brand. They should be considered when you move into designing your logo as your logo should represent who you are and what you stand for.
Your logo isn’t your brand. It is the foundation that your branding is built around. Think of it as building a house. Do you decorate your house and make it ascetically pretty before you even have it built? I sure hope not. After you have the blueprints, which are those elements I talked about earlier, the next thing is to build the foundation, your logo.What your logo means is more important then what it looks like and it should identify not explain in its simplest form. Remember, your logo will NEVER be in isolation. It is part of your Brand Identity which is a system of elements working together to provide unity, consistency and flexibility. These visual elements consist of your logo, stationery, marketing materials, packaging, your voice and other visuals that represent your company. They are usually assembled within a set of guidelines that keep the brand consistent and allows the brand as a whole, to be recognizable.
